Ken Levine, creator of BioShock and former Irrational Games bigwig, has confirmed his new studio is in business. Ghost Story has risen from the ashes of Irrational with many of the same staff since the latter shut in 2014.
While the rest of the gaming world moved on Ghost Story were apparently quietly working away on a new project. While we don’t have a name for the secret project just yet we do know it will be a “new immersive sci-fi game with RPG elements”. It is also sure to appeal to fans of the BioShock series. It is apparently in the early stages of development.
Straight from the Horse’s Mouth
In a statement released from Ghost Story we learnt the following:
“As a new studio we are excited to be working on our maiden game! However, individually our team members have been involved in the development and release of many games, including but not limited to System Shock 2, BioShock and BioShock Infinite, which were directed by Ken Levine under our former moniker Irrational Games.
While we believe our new games will have strong appeal to fans of BioShock, our new focus allows us to craft experiences where the gameplay is as challenging as the stories.
We are not yet ready to share any more on our new game, but we invite you to join us and take part in our community.”
Cryptic and intriguing…
When will we Know More
Ken Levine is a key-note speaker at EGX Rezzed in a few weeks. We fully expect an announcement about the mystery project then. Until then we can only speculate that it will be a modest open-world game. Levine has previously stated this would be his goal in his next project.
