Xbox Game Pass
The world of entertainment is increasingly subscription based but it was still a surprise to read the latest Xbox announcement. For $9.99 a month (International prices not yet announced) you will get unlimited access to a catalogue of over 100 games. It’s certainly a much better offering than when I used to use Lovefilm to get games. Xbox Game Pass will launch to the public in Spring.
What Games can I Expect?
The games will be made up of a collection of Xbox One titles and backwards compatible 360 titles. Publishers that are said to be on board include 2K, 505 Games, BANDAI NAMCO Entertainment, Capcom, Codemasters, Deep Silver, Focus Home Interactive, SEGA, SNK CORPORATION, THQ Nordic GmbH, Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment and Microsoft Studios. There’s certainly potential for some great games with that lineup. Games available at the launch of Xbox Game Pass will include Halo 5: Guardians, Payday 2, NBA 2K16 and SoulCalibur II.
For those of you with less than ideal bandwidth, fear not! Games included in the program will be able to be fully downloaded to avoid lag. Additionally, should you wish to purchase any of the games in the program for use without the program you will receive a discount while your membership is active. This will also kick in for DLC purchases. The games lineup will be cycled every month. This will give you a constantly changing catalogue of games without any hassle. This may just be an achievement hunter’s dream. That $9.99 is going to buy you a whole heap of gamerscore if you’re dedicated enough to take advantage.
Want it Now?
Invites are being sent to the Alpha Preview section of the Xbox Insider Program now. The test package will include a handful of titles. Once launch date nears the program will be available to Xbox Live Gold members. It will then by open to the rest of the gaming community.
