Avalanche Studios may be known for explosive action games like Just Cause 3 and Mad Max, but open-world hunting has also been a core part of the studio for many years. In February Avalanche released theHunter: Call of the Wild on PC. Today Avalanche announced that they have created a dedicated console team and that the game will be coming to Xbox One and PS4 in 2017.

What’s it like to go on a virtual hunting trip? Well, it can be a very serene experience. There’s actually a subset of players who never fire their gun, but rather go around with their binoculars and admire Mother Nature. If they ever shoot anything, it’s using their in-game camera.

Others play a completely different way. A significant number in the theHunter community are real-life hunters, and they can put their experience and knowledge of the wild to great use in the game. For instance, many instinctively understand the importance of keeping track of the wind. Just like in real life, prey in theHunter: Call of the Wild can smell you if they’re downwind from your location.
